Seduction of Sleep

Exhaustion pulls, weighs
my weary body down
movements now sluggish
thought-process foggy
eyelids droop heavy
dreaming of sleep.

The dog sighs, then
drifts effortlessly
into deep slumber.
I stare, envious
of his speedy success.
Soft snores fill the silence.

Night settles, its hush
sweeps up the last
of the day. The house
gently exhales. Prepares
to surrender, invites
me to do the same.
