Beating Dust

a - beating dust

Her heart is crushed beyond repair,
a pile of dust encased in bones,
too much damage to beat again,
maybe she’s better off alone.
Another heartbreak to add to the list,
no checking it twice, she remembers them still,
broken promises, opportunities missed,
the damage they’ve done, she’s undeserving of this.
Then like a phoenix from the ashes, her heart rises once more,
the scars will remain forever, etched in blood,
reminders may echo deep within her core,
but no longer confusing, now completely understood.
Ready to love, learning to trust,
her beating heart now stronger than ever before,
the scars still carry the remains of the dust,
but they no longer control who she is anymore.
