Losing Hope

He was losing hope. 
Soul becoming jaded, his belief in love, waning.
Was he expecting too much? 
He knew, if the answer was yes, 
then he was destined to spend his life alone.
Exhausted emotions, played by the careless,
discarded by the ruthless.
Each break, taking that little bit longer to heal,
each recovery, taking that little bit more of him.
He had stopped looking, eyes cast down, 
heart closed off, guarded by memories.
Then, he saw her.
