Words form like unfinished jigsaws in her mouth,

Making no sense and not fitting in with what she was trying to say

Her eyes try to convey what her mouth cannot, yet fall short and mist over with tears of frustration and raw emotion

She looks away, unable to continue looking into his hurt filled eyes, which were managing to show exactly how he was feeling

How did it come to this, destroying all that she loved and hurting the one person who would be able to comfort her

As the minutes churn by, filled with an awkward silence infused with desperation and guilt, neither seem to be able to speak the words that are so urgently needing to be said

Finally, he turns away heading for the door, shoulders slumped in defeated indignation

She feels the panic rise up within her and take hold of her redundant mouth “Please don’t go!” is all that it can muster

He turns around, looking at her in a way that she would never forget, so full of pain

“Going is the only thing that makes sense right now” he sighs as he disappears through the doorway.
